How tournaments work

A tournament is a one-day competition. You find them on the Tournaments tab, on the web and in the app.

Divisions

A tournament has one or more divisions. Each division has its own format (5v5, 7v7 or 11v11), its own price, its own number of team slots and its own squad size.

A team enters exactly one division. You can be on one team per tournament, across all of its divisions.

Squad size

The format sets the minimum number of players a team needs. The organizer sets each division's maximum, starting from a default, up to a limit. The division card shows the range it uses, as "Roster 5–8", for example.

Register a team

Open the tournament and press Register a team. The wizard has four steps.

  1. Team & division

Name the team, add a crest if you like, and pick the division.

  2. Invite players

Share the team link or search for people. You can also skip this and invite them later.

  3. Payment

Pay now or later. What this step offers depends on how the division is priced.

  4. Registered

Your team exists and shows whether it is In hold or Registered.

The team exists from the first step, before anyone pays. If you close the wizard halfway, the team stays, and it waits in hold until someone pays.

  • The name is 2 to 32 characters. You can change it until the division takes its first payment, either a paid place or money toward a team fee. After that it is fixed.
  • The crest is optional, and you can change it until the draw. Without one, the team shows its initials.

Whoever registers the team is its captain. The captain invites players and can remove them. The captain cannot leave the team, and the captain role cannot be handed to someone else.

While registration is open, the captain can also withdraw the team with Withdraw team on its team page. Whether anyone gets money back depends on the registration deadline: see when you get your tournament money back.

In hold and Registered

A new team is In hold. Once it meets its division's condition it becomes Registered and joins the public list of teams.

  • A division priced per player: enough players have paid to reach the format's minimum.
  • A division priced per team: the whole team fee is collected, and the team has enough accepted players to reach the minimum.
  • A free division has no hold: the team is registered straight away.

Paying for a tournament explains both pricing models in detail.

The deadline, and closing registration

The registration deadline ends intake. After it, nobody can create a team, invite, accept an invitation, join or leave, and every squad is locked.

Paying stays open after the deadline, until the organizer closes registration. At that moment, every team still In hold is withdrawn and everyone who paid gets their money back. See tournament refunds.

A division also closes early once all its team slots are taken by registered teams. There is no waitlist.

After registration

The organizer runs a random draw among the registered teams and then sets the schedule. Your matches appear on your team's page once the draw is made.

A venue can have several pitches. Matches can then run at the same time, and the schedule and the match card say which pitch, for example "Arena · Pitch 2".
